About Ashya Mission

We have all observed a massive pandemic in 2020 that impacts millions of people, particularly the economically disadvantaged segments of society. In contrast, individuals without fundamental social security—such as a family, a roof, or a place to live—were unable to handle the circumstances, while the privileged segment of society was able to deal with them. People's Forum started the rescue effort because of their circumstances and wanted to help the poor people right away. In 2020, we established Ashya Mission to provide emergency shelters for beggars who might be severely disabled and unable to take care of themselves, their belongings, or everyday tasks.

Stories of Lives Transformed Through Our Initiatives

Santosh 's Story

During the COVID-19 pandemic, People's Forum rehabilitated over 250 individuals, including Santosh (name changed), a destitute beggar living a hopeless life. Rescued from Nayapalli, Bhubaneswar, on May 28, 2020, he initially resisted help, but with patient counselling, he shared his story. Once a union leader and garage owner, Santosh turned to begging after losing his wife and being neglected by his family. Through counselling and support, Santosh began engaging in activities and was assigned the role of a paid gardener, which uplifted him. The organization also worked to reconcile him with his family, ultimately reuniting them. With assistance from People's Forum, Santosh received tools to reopen a garage in his village, which now provides him with a stable income. He expressed heartfelt gratitude, crediting Ashya Mission for giving him new hope and a chance to rebuild his life.
