Stories of Lives Transformed Through Our Initiatives

Sunita's Story
Sunita (name changed), a 52-year-old woman rescued from Khordha in May 2018, was diagnosed with schizophrenia and appeared fragile and heartbroken. Found untidy and withdrawn, she struggled with communication and avoided eye contact. At Mission Ashra, she received psychiatric treatment and counselling, gradually improving her hygiene and demeanor. In 2023, an updated Aadhaar card linked her to her family in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, leading to an emotional reunion with her four children after six years. Sunita, a victim of domestic violence, had left home, prompting her family to assume she was dead. Though reunited, she chose to stay at Mission Ashra for better care, with her children promising monthly visits.
