Stories of Lives Transformed Through Our Initiatives

Sonali's Story

A 12-year-old girl named Sonali resided at our Shakti Sadan Home while she was pregnant. Sonali claims that she was sexually assaulted by the son of her home's owner as well as his friend. Sonali and her family resided in a leased home in Khordha during the time of counselling. Sonali lived at home with her mother and brother, while her father works in Paradeep Port. Since Sonali was a young child, we were unable to house her in our shelter; but, with the collector's special permission, Sonali was allowed to remain in our centre for improved care and treatment. Sonali felt uneasy when she was in another facility. She felt joyful as soon as she arrived to the centre. She and her child were not under any stress because of the excellent care she received here, including excellent checkups, food, and medication. She was seven months pregnant when she arrived at the centre on June 13. Sonali was a sweet and affectionate child who got along with everyone. she gave birth on August 15th in the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. The whole crew was ecstatic that we had taken charge of Sonali's entire journey, which had become a challenge. She brought her daughter to the centre after being released from the hospital. We all persuaded Sonali to concentrate on her additional education when she expressed a desire to keep her child to herself. She eventually consented and gave her daughter to the adoption centre.
